A Story for Todayges
There was once a Rotary phone. When his family first came to this country they were all the rage, the talk of the town! Years passed and their success grew, so when it came time for little Rotary to fly off the assembly line he could not be more thrilled. The walls were adorned with photos of his forefathers' success and he eagerly wanted to be the next in a long line of Rotaries. When he hit the shelves he was met with a surprise. No one was taking him home. No one was taking any of his family home, at first he rationalized this as a slow quarter, and things would pick up. They never did. The Touchtones were now here. They were smaller, better and would soon be on everybody's lips. Shortly after the Touchstone's boom, little Rotary was now forced to wear the 1/2 off tag on his back. He took that personally, never did he think in his family's long history that he would be reduced into having to wear such a sign and be nothing more that little kids entertainment as they came and rang his bell for giggles. Days before he was to be taken off the shelves, an old man by the name of Dario came and bought him. He took him home and put him on the wall very proudly. Dario's family never had a phone before so they displayed Rotary as proudly as he thought himself to be. Months passed and Rotary became a part of Dario's home. Dario's youngest was pretending to be Spiderman one afternoon and used Rotary's cord as one of his webs. This brought Dario's youngest great joy, and Rotary a ripped cord. When Dario saw this he sighed, and said "Well I guess we have to go get a new phone, this one's cord is broken" Rotary stood silent. Two days later on a chilly fall afternoon he found himself outside. Rotary finally had it, he moved to Nebraska, took a job an office job as an accountant, married a girl from the office and moved to the developing side of town where he now drives a sedan on the weekdays and works on his truck on the weekends.
