Losing
by Emmy Perez
Hot sand blows inside her mind. Cougar eyes materialize, clink
against her skull like ice striking a glass
sky. At the empty schoolyard, she draws herself a challenge circle in
dirt. Aims. Shoots a bright jadeite. Knocks all her marbles outside
the bullfight. Leaves the beast stabbed with bright flags.
Clouds wave white hankies as she teases galaxy back into orbit.
Leaves her fallen other. Chiple monster, little mother, matadora.
