Reflections of My Legacy
by Carol Borrego
The man that gave me a name
Lays reposing in a bed, eyes closed
With his children surrounding him
For the first time in his 78 years
Resting comfortabaly in an assigned bed
The procedure went well
Better than expected, you reflect still
The man, larger than life
Wisdom from whom I've learned
Yet I stand there and refuse to accept
The etches and lines on his face
A passage of years we all know
Of what someday must come
My own reflection on the glass
Reminds me everyday
More wisdom more knowledge I show
My own legacy I will pass
To the ones that carry my name
I see the shadows of time
In my own smile
I acknowledge the knowing in my eyes
How can I think time will
Not remember the man whose
Blood flows through my veins
My legacy, my blood, my name
Proud to be
My father's daughter
